The Repair Process

Unfortunately, the process of collision repair begins with whatever event caused damage to you vehicle. From there the process can be broken down somewhat like this:

  • The Event; car crash, theft, vandalism, natural disaster or a simple opening of a door can cause damages that require auto body repairs
  • The Search for Information; from obtaining any other party’s personal and insurance information, to talking with your insurance company, to locating a repair facility
  • The Estimate; after the damage you will need to get an estimate of the repairs needed to fix your vehicle. This is where it can get kind of murky, your insurance company may require an estimate be performed by their adjuster, a private adjuster, or a repair center. *** Caution – you DO NOT need multiple repair estimates *** If you would like more than one that is fine but not legally necessary.
  • The Negotiation; Depending on the severity of your repairs, and your policy, you may need to negotiate repair terms with your insurer. If you are the “not at fault party” your insurance may handle these negotiations for you.
  • The Assignment; Once the negotiations are complete and your car is to be repaired the repair job will be assigned. *** Caution – You have the right to choose where to have your vehicle repaired. Your insurance may attempt to entice you to take your car or truck to a facility of their choosing but they can not force you to do so. This is called steering and it is illegal. Many insurance company’s have agreements with repair shops that provide for economic concessions in return for repair work allocation. These are called DRP (Direct Repair Provider) agreements and they are for the benefit of the insurance company. This is not to say that any of the repair centers that they may recommend are inferior or perform inferior repairs. ***  You can rest assured with Queen Anne Auto Body, we are insurance friendly and will work with your insurance company to provide you the highest available levels of repairs and service available.
  • The Repair; Once we receive the assignment and we get your car into our repair center will begin the process of tearing down the damaged area of the vehicle, then;
    • The damaged areas will be repaired
    • If further damage is found after we tear down the damaged area we will negotiate a supplement of repairs needed with your insurance company
    • Once this is complete we will restart the repairs and install any needed replacement parts (for an explanation on replacement parts please read this page)
    • After the repairs are complete and parts replaced we then prepare the vehicle for any necessary paint procedures
    • When your vehicle is complete we will wash and vacuum it for you
  • The Delivery; You’re done. You get to drive your car home where it belongs.
